Aquaponics

In collaboration with Ariana Lebed

Aquaponics reestablishes the once vibrant fishing community that existed in the New York harbor. By cordoning off, punching through and aggregating the fishing module, a landscape is created. A biofiltration system exists below the water’s surface with reefball structures acting as both habitat and pier structure. The program connects back to the larger context through a landscaped area and a flexible market space. Aquaponics could potentially spread to other areas around the city, restoring the harbor and renewing the relationship between people, the water and its ecosystem.
