A slower approach to design.
Slow Future Studio explores how architecture can support more intentional ways of living. Rooted in Tucson, the studio brings together design, education, and community to imagine futures grounded in care for people, place, and the everyday spaces we inhabit.
About Sarena
Sarena is a registered architect and urban planning graduate student based in Tucson, Arizona. With more than 13 years of professional experience, her work centers on designing spaces that support wellbeing, connection, and a more intentional relationship between people and the built environment.
Her approach to architecture is grounded in the belief that design is fundamentally about people. Throughout her career, Sarena has worked across a range of project types, guiding projects from early concept through construction while balancing technical detailing, project management, and collaboration with clients, consultants, and communities. This experience shaped a practice that values both thoughtful design and the everyday realities of how spaces are made and used.
Sarena’s interests sit at the intersection of architecture, urban design, and community life. She is particularly drawn to questions of how environments influence health, social connection, and long-term resilience in the Southwest. Her current graduate studies in urban planning deepen this work, expanding her focus from individual buildings to neighborhoods, systems, and shared public spaces.
Alongside professional practice, Sarena is passionate about education and knowledge-sharing. She believes design should not exist only within professional circles but should be accessible, participatory, and empowering. This belief informs her work developing classes, workshops, and collaborative learning experiences that invite people to engage with design in practical and meaningful ways.
About Slow Future Studio
Slow Future Studio is a non-traditional architecture and design practice founded as an alternative to conventional models of practice.
The studio grew from the belief that the future of architecture does not need to be faster or more complex, but more intentional. Inspired by slow food, slow fashion, and intentional living movements, Slow Future Studio embraces a process grounded in care, curiosity, and long-term thinking.
The studio blends design services with education and community engagement. Work may take the form of architectural projects, spatial consulting, research, workshops, or public-facing classes that invite people to engage more deeply with their homes, neighborhoods, and shared environments.
Rather than separating professional expertise from everyday life, Slow Future Studio treats design as something participatory and evolving—a conversation rather than a transaction.
The studio acts as both a practice and a gathering space: a place for thoughtful projects, shared knowledge, and conversations about how we want to live now and in the future.
